Short Biografy
of Rahul Mehrotra
Rahul Mehrotra studied at the School of Architecture, Ahmedabad and at
the Graduate School of Design at Harvard where he received a Master of
Architecture in Urban Design degree.
The office of Rahul Mehrotra Associates was founded in August 1990 and
has since designed and executed diverse projects ranging from Interior
Design and Architecture to Urban Design, Conservation and Planning.
Mehrotra is actively involved with Urban Conservation projects in the
city of Bombay and has served from 1992 to 1999 on the Advisory Commitee
that advises the Municipal Commissioner on Conservation of Heritage
Buildings and artifacts in the city of Bombay. He has also authored a
number of books on Bombay and has written extensively on architecture,
urban design and planning in India.
Since 1996 Rahul Mehrotra has been on the Board of Governors of the
Metropolitan Regional Development Authority's Heritage Society, which
administers grants as well as supports and facilitates conservation
projects in the region. From 1994 Mehrotra has been the Executive
Director of the Urban Design Research Institute in Bombay which promotes
research on the city with the aim of influencing urban planning policy.
Mehrotra has taught at The National University of Singapore, (1998) and
the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, (2000) where he has now been
appointed an Associate Professor.

Short Biografy of Sharada Dwivedi
Sharada Dwivedl schooled at Queen Mary's in Mumbai and graduated from
the Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics, followed by a degree
in Library Science from Bombay University and training in reference
work in Paris. She is a researcher and writer whose publications include
six books on the city's history, co-authored with Rahul Mehrotra.
These include Bombay, the Cities - Within (1995, 200 1), Banganga,
Sacred Tank ((1996), Fort Walks (1999) and Anchoring a City Line the
History of the Western Suburban Railway and its Headquarters in Bombay
(2000). The Jehangir Art Gallery, established 1952 and The Victoria
Memorial School for the Blind, founded 1902 (2002). She has also written
numerous articles on conservation and urban issues concerning Mumbai.
Among her other books are Lives of the Indian Princes (1984), Reach for
the the Stars (1993, a corporate history of Blue Star Ltd), The Broken Flute
(1994, a children's novel), The Maharaja (1999) and Abu Jani - Sandeep Khosia,
A Celebration of -Style (2000). She writes on a variety of subjects that
include art, architecture, interiors, heritage, conservation and the traditions
of cuisine.
She is actively involved in several conservation projects in the city and
has served as a co-opted Member of the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee.
She is a Member of the Executive Committees of the Urban Design Research
Institute (UDRI) and the Kala Ghoda Association and is a consultant to the
Bombay Collaborative. She lives in Mumbai with her husband, Bhagirath Dwivedi
and daughter, Radhika.
