Making a Living: Crafts in Asia

Though the building and textile industries were quite established in Asia, European missionaries also added to the pool of marketable skills through sewing and knitting classes for girls and women and artisan training for men in carpentry, joinery, masonry and other skills. Chinese shoemakers are shown in A-30.15.009 and A-30.15.012 although it is not clear to this interpreter how the missionary presence may have strengthened this craft.
